Another Award Becomes Irrelevant

Streisand Awarded France's Legion of Honor

"It is with such baubles that men are led." Napoleon III

Barbra Streisand performed her first-ever concert in France this week — and was rewarded with a medal of the Legion of Honor.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy awarded the singer in a ceremony in Paris on Thursday evening, the first time the new president had bestowed the honor upon anyone since he took over last month from Jacques Chirac. "You are the America that we love," said Sarkozy, seen as more U.S.-friendly than his predecessor. "Women like you ... do a lot to bring our two peoples together."

"My kids told me, 'Now you're really president,'" when they heard Streisand was coming to the presidential palace, Sarkozy said.

Jerry Lewis got one, too.

From a man who was a fool for fun, to a woman who's really a fool.

WHo knew the French had such a sense of humor?

Another award made worthless by honoring worthless, unhonorable people.
