Wow, you gotta love these guys.

The National Rifle Association is urging the Bush administration to withdraw its support of a bill that would prohibit suspected terrorists from buying firearms. Backed by the Justice Department, the measure would give the attorney general the discretion to block gun sales, licenses or permits to terror suspects.

In a letter this week to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, NRA executive director Chris Cox said the bill, offered last week by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., "would allow arbitrary denial of Second Amendment rights based on mere 'suspicions' of a terrorist threat."

Then you all ought to be happy as clams, Boxer. The point is not to deny guns to people merely suspected of being terrorists. Aren't you Lefties always bitching about Constitutional rights being 'taken away'? Happy Birthday!

Boxer this is a CASE study in the difference between thoughtful conservatives, emotional leftists, and politicians.

When I first heard this news I had the EXACT same kneejerk, emotional reaction:"Why in the hell did the NRA OPPOSE the DOJ blocking the sales of guns to "terrorist suspects"?! It's in this manner that freedoms are lost.

To start with, the Bush Admin.-like all good pols-thought they might gain some good will with a hostile media by proposing this seemingly sensible piece of legislation. After all, who wants terrorists to have guns? Or airplnes, or boxcutters, or fertilizer, or bombmaking materials, or copies of AlGore's book, or...well you get the message. It certainly IS an appeal to the non-thinking (emotional) part of the brain.
I called a buddy of mine in law enforcement in Northeast FL (St. John's Cty.) and asked him the procedures as far as how they handle a "terrorist suspect" who's attempting to buy weapons/firearms. He told me that this is ALREADY good enough reason to arrest them. When I asked him why the new law, he said it's just a political issue and it's "above his paygrade."

Someone at the NRA had the guts to say, "what incredible mischief a Democrat Administration could cause with this new bit of legislation." We've already SEEN in what direction the Clintons like to point THEIR guns! Do you remember Waco and Ruby Ridge? How about Elian Gonzalez? Democrats would redefine the meaning of "terrorist" and "suspect" beyond all comprehension, we've seen them do this EXACT thing. Eco-wackos already can't tell the difference between a c-4 wearing Arab and an industrialist! Algore calls "global warming" a greater threat than Islamic fascism.

Sentient humans have danmed good reasons not to trust leftists with power! We HAVE SEEN THEM WIELD IT AGAINST OUR OWN PEOPLE!!

In summary, why is this a bad law?
1. According to my friend in the Sheerifs department we already arrest these "suspects" when they attempt to buy firearms or explosives. He didn't understand the need for this at all.

2. This would be HORRIBLY abused by a Democrat Adimn. who seems to confuse terrorists and American religious wackos, industrialists and Arab bonb belt wearers, etc.

Gotta go for now.

Why is it that you guys are against ANYTHING that someone you think is "leftie" says? Is that part of drinking the Kool-Aid? Part of being the last Americans who dont see through this bunch of hacks? I voted for Bush 2X but as I have said time and time again, they lost me over Iraq. Sometimes what looks like a good law actually is a good law. I mean we are not talking about creating "Freedom Fries" here. I shake my head in disbelief here.

Boxer you didn't address the "meat" of what I wrote. It has nothing to do with Bush or Iraq or Kool Aid. Focus prease as they say in the Chinese kitchen.

For all intents and purposes the new proposed legislation is unnecessary and redundant. We already stop terrorist suspects from buying weapons and explosives according to my good friend at the St. Johns County Sherrif's Dept.
At that point your attention SHOULD be twigged, why are they proposing it? And what are the possible abuses of such a new law?

I'm glad that you asked! For those answers look at my previous post. Try to remember that the 1st and 2nd Amendments to the Constitution are under CONSTANT assault from the political left and John McCain. They are two legs of the chair of American freedom. Before getting worked up about terrorists buying guns, PLEASE reread this post. Thanks.

Why is it that you guys are against ANYTHING that someone you think is "leftie" says?

Boxer--Because Lefties are fundamentally against America, they want to see her destroyed, they will do ANYTHING TO destroy her. They make law over what THEY want and not for what is good for America.

They have a self-righteous arrogance that they speak for 'all' Americans, and that they know what is 'best' for all the rest of us that is truly frightening. They do nothing except what will garner them their own--and more--power.

Witness Harry Reid's speech that their quest to 'cut 'n' run will get them Senate votes the next term...

They are a paranoid lot, sunk knee deep into Bush Derangement Syndrome and they are against things simply because we are for them.

They marry themselves to communist groups like CodePink and MoveOn.org--and then deny they are communist. They are totally ignorant of the real motives behind these groups and who backs them and why (Soros anyone?)

They lie and try to destroy good Republicans just to get even with us for Clinton--when they should acknowledge his faults and give up their juvenile quest for revenge--it's just hurting America.

They are so steeped in hatred--the rabid rantings I hear at DU CONTINUALLY make me think you all are mentally unhinged--and, you know? I've never seen a one of you object to anything on your own side. How in the hell are we supposed to think you're credible under those circumstances?

You sure as hell don't have MY best interests at heart. When a war hero dies, when it's Christmas or Memorial Day etc. I NEVER see any decent remembrance at DU. You people can't even be ordinarily grateful. How am I supposed to trust ANY message you send?

Amen to your great post DONAL!
The funny thing about lefties is that they fail to question their basic marching orders from their "betters" at DU, Alternet etc. Take for instance the earlier subject of terrorist subjects buying guns. Their whole argument was about 1 inch deep and it bothers them not a whit! Leftists lose EVERY substantive argument and they keep coming back for more...

Boxer,
Silly man. This is America. Everyone has a right to own a handgun, including terrorists and terrorist suspects. So all of those terrorist suspects in Gitmo, when they get out, they too can own a gun. If Ronald Reagan proposed this law, it would be etched in stone already. Remember Boxer, what is up is now down. And what was once black, is now white. This is the land of the 28%ers, the last dead-enders who still believe George Bush is a great an noble leader!
