Unfortunately, Dems Leave US Defenseless, Too

The Defenseless Democrats
IBD

National Security: One campaign promise the Democrats are keeping is to gut missile defense. While the House votes to cut funding to stop enemy missiles, they shift intelligence funds to study climate change.

The Democrats have a curious set of priorities. Last week, they slashed $764 million from the $8.9 billion missile-defense budget request during the markup of the 2008 defense authorization before the strategic forces subcommittee headed by California Democrat Ellen Tauscher.

Meanwhile, the House intelligence panel, under the stellar leadership of Texas Democrat Silvestre Reyes, voted 11-9 to shift scarce intelligence funds away from monitoring enemies of the United States to monitoring climate change. "We're concerned that global warming might impact our ability to maintain national security," Reyes explained.

Oh, really. We don't suppose either Mr. Reyes or Ms. Tauscher ever considered the environmental impact of a North Korean or Iranian warhead detonating in or over an American city. Apparently the Democrats are more worried about what's coming out of your tailpipe than what might be coming out of an enemy missile silo.

Gosh, it's bad enough what the Clinton's did to the military and our defenses when they were in office. Now, even with a democrat Congress, they appear to want to cut us off at the knees.

Who would be dissuaded that they want to simply hand us over to the enemy on a silver platter?

hmmm...lets see... $8.9B and $764M...Lord have mercy, that is an astounding 8% cut!!!!! That is about what Dick Cheney gets in his blind trust each year from Halliburton. And $400M from a $517B, well that doesnt even register on my calculator, that is how small percentage is. Do the math!

Retired Major General John Batiste takes President Bush on, directly, when Bush says that he's just "listening to commanders on the ground" in Iraq.

That is the youtube video above. Do America a favor. Now YOU can listen to a commander on the ground.

Oh come on StatGuy! It's not like those are the only cuts Dems have made - or will make if they get in again. It's the entire Dem mindset that we object to that led to this - not just ONE incident of cuts ONE single time. You want to gut our military, leave us defenseless. I don't have to watch some crap on YouTube to know that!

ANON.--Old news. Gen. Batiste was one of three generals that protested the war when Donald Rumsfeld was in charge.

Contrary to your assertion, President Bush DID listen to his 'generals on the ground'; he fired Rumsfeld, developed a new strategy, and sent General Petraeus to manage the thing.
