Nifong Disbarred Over Ethics Violations in Duke Lacrosse Case
Associated Press

District Attorney Mike Nifong was disbarred Saturday for his "selfish" rape prosecution of three Duke University lacrosse players — a politically motivated act, his judges said, that he inexplicably allowed to fester for months after it was clear the defendants were innocent.

"This matter has been a fiasco. There's no doubt about it," said F. Lane Williamson, the chairman of the three-member disciplinary committee that stripped the veteran prosecutor of his state law license.
Even Nifong and his attorneys supported the decision, though the veteran prosecutor refused to admit to the end that no crime occurred at a March 2006 lacrosse team party.

The committee said Nifong manipulated the investigation to boost his chances of winning his first election for Durham County district attorney. In doing so, he committed "a clear case of intentional prosecutorial misconduct" that involved "dishonesty, fraud, deceit and misrepresentation."

I watched CNN as the hearing was aired and the disbarring decision was made. Do you know the anchor woman actually said "it's kind of a sad day....a man's career is over, don't you think it's rather sad?" to the on-the-scenes reporter. I thought "No, honey..this guy lied, this guy tried to nail innocent kids.....it's sad that Peter Pace was insulted and left, it's sad Rumsfeld worked as hard as he did and left, it's sad that Fitzgerald took Scooter to the cleaners knowing full well who really did the leaking, it's sad that really good people have to go because of our media and their lies....not NIfong." unreal.

Z...great comment! The comment by CNN anchor is why I don't listen to CNN. The "sad" part is that we ever heard of this guy.

Political folks seem intent on having a legacy -at any cost. Well, Nifong got his! His name can now be used as a verb; "That guy was nifonged." "I nifonged my boss today."

I couldnt agree more with this punishment. I would like to see some kind of settlement for these kids. Their lives were turned upside down for this guys political career. Just shameful.

p.s. Donal, I just dont have the time to comment on EVERYTHING you post here. And I dont want to comment on EVERYTHING you post here. For example, I never post on Batya's stories about Israel because I just dont haven't done the background work to discuss in depth. I can tell you this, I support Israel 100% and truly believe they are like the canary in the coal mine in the middle east. We need to support them with everything we have.
