Thousands March in D.C. War Protest
Several thousand anti-war demonstrators marched through downtown Washington on Saturday, clashing with police at the foot of the Capitol steps where more than 190 protesters were arrested.
The group marched from the White House to the Capitol to demand an end to the Iraq war. Their numbers stretched for blocks along Pennsylvania Avenue, and they held banners and signs and chanted, "What do we want? Troops out. When do we want it? Now."
Army veteran Justin Cliburn, 25, of Lawton, Okla., was among a contingent of Iraq veterans in attendance.
"We're occupying a people who do not want us there," Cliburn said of Iraq. "We're here to show that it isn't just a bunch of old hippies from the 60s who are against this war."

No, most of these people aren't old hippies; they desperately want to be new hippies. We should oblige them by calling the whole sorry batch of 'em neo-hipsters (the 'doofus' is optional).

Its important to remember that the ''political hippie'' so to say,the self-righteous, smug, smash the pigs, ''etc. is different then the sort of mellow, stoner, ''hey yer harshing my buzz'' non-political type of hippie. It certainly is depressing and not the least bit maddning to have to see Americans behave this way, this isn't about a political civil war in a Southeast Asian country or a proxy war between two superpowers. Its a response, abelated response to an attack on our own soil by religious nihilists from the 7th.century who aim to kill any of us and all of us with no distinction between white, black, Christian, Jew, Satanist, tree-hugger or whatever. The jihadis have put out a hit on Madonna and Britney Spears, for real. Said they either convert to Islam, ( when they take over that is) or their heads will be cut off for the ''prostitutes they are''. Well,now they've gone and done it,you really think the spoiled degenerates of MTV land and Hollywood are going to take that lying down? Seriously though, given these barbarians track record, I'd be a little worried if I were the Material girl and Brittney right about now. J'Mac.
These aren't so much hippies as radicals who couldn't give up the weed long enough to do the yuppie thing.
None of these organizations stand for "peace" -- why the news media lets them get away with it bothers me a great deal.
ANSWER and its like-minded kin are remnants of the communist plague that once enjoyed a bit more popularity than they do today. They're anything BUT peaceniks -- the whole lot are wannabe Stalins.
"Progressives" are not above using them for their own purposes it if gives them a way to bash Bush.
Soon, some of these geriatric hipsters will start dying off for real. I think I'll save a nice bottle of champagne for that occasion.
