We Tried To Tell Them...

Teen Age Workers Laid Off After Minimum Wage Boost

Oh, for the days when Arizona's high school students could roll pizza dough, sweep up sticky floors in theaters or scoop ice cream without worrying about ballot initiatives affecting their earning power.

That's certainly not the case under the state's new minimum-wage law that went into effect last month.

Some Valley employers, especially those in the food industry, say payroll budgets have risen so much that they're cutting hours, instituting hiring freezes and laying off employees.

And teens are among the first workers to go.

Higher pay always hurts small business and the middle class, but as usual stupid democrats don't get that.

Here's what means for new hires. When the min. wage goes up to $7.25 that new guy very likely is overpaid while he is in training and there's a good chance that he's a bottom line "loss" for a few weeks. Because of this "loss" it will take longer for him to get a raise regardless of performance.

There's something else I've noticed about this minimum wage debate. No one seems to be stating the obvious. Here it goes:

WHO IN THE HELL TOLD CONGRESS THAT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DICTATE WHAT I PAY MY! CREWMEN? THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR ME AND I WANT TO PAY THEM EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE WORTH!!

It's obnoxious in the extreme that they think they have the right to dictate employee compensation to businesses. This is strictly a market issue. Ahh but then the truth of this particular matter rears it's ugly socialist head. Union wage contracts are tied directly to the minimum wage. As the MW goes up so do the Union wages. This is a gift to the union thugs from their slaves in the Dem Congress.

Dear Thomas Sowell TRIES to explain economics to the Demmies--in one-syllable words, sometimes, and they just don't get it! What are ya gonna do?

I don't know too many businesses, outside of retail and fast food, that hires workers at minimum wage anyway. Our lowest paid worker was hired at $8.00 per hour and he's fresh out of aviation tech school. He's never worked in this field before. He came to us from the sporting goods department at WalMart where he also earned $8.00 an hour. However, at WalMart you must work there fulltime for 2 years before you're eligible for the helath insurance plan. With us he gets full health benefits paid for, spouses and kids are extra.

Jeez, Patsy, I started at some miserable 2.65-2.90 an hour back in 1977... worked like a dog for next to nothing.

MORGAN: The corrupt Imperial Federal Government is going to tell you exactly how much you will pay your employees from now on. Or shut you down. Sounds like Nazi Germany where gov't intimidation takes reign everywhere. I'm sure your crewmen will appreciate the raise--though I'm sure you pay them a "living wage". LOL. What pisses me off most about this whole BS about working families is that most people who have minimum wage jobs don't have families and live with their parents--they are of school-age. It's a whole pack of lies (as usual) from the liberals. And as Neal Boortz says if you are somebody who is trying to raise a family on minimum wage--then you are a complete utter LOSER! You've forsaken your birthright as an American to the greatest opportunities ever known to man to give yourself immediate gratification. No doubt the poor and welfare parasites love this.

Actually it is the second worker in the family who usually gets the minimum wage. You know the wife returning to the workforce, trying to save to put the kids through college or maybe help pay some bills (heating, gas bills, etc). Its tough but heck, let the free market rule. If the market says that entry level work pays $5.00 per hour in that area of the country then MOVE! No one should dicate what a living wage is, it is a free country.
