Fascism's Legacy: LiberalismI read someplace many years ago --- and even heard a friend say something along the same lines --- that a lot of liberals did not seem to know, or care, that there were dark elements moving in to take advantage of them and their movement. I saw what they meant.
The peace movement, at least representative of the liberal establishment, was a study in infiltration -- hardcore leftists saw a chance to use the movement for their purposes, usually in support of communist and other totalitarian regimes. Even if the liberal leaders of such groups could not be expected to abandon their anti-war philosophy, they could certainly have condemned the darker elements moving in and taking advantage of essentially naive youth. But they did not. Some of those long ago liberals refused to condemn their new "allies" because they, too, saw an opportunity to magnify their force.
And therein lies the reason for why the liberals of today find themselves supporting groups like the Palestinians, who are the very opposite of what they claim to stand for.
Liberalism was a postive force in human affairs before it was compromised by the worst of humanity. It is why we all live as well and as free as we do in our respective countries. In another time and place, there is no telling how we would find ourselves -- but most likely not as free and as prosperous as we are now. Liberalism of old is what helped move us to this more enlightened existence.
But the liberalism of today is trying to do the exact opposite. Not only is it in danger of being completely compromised by naive zealots, it is nearly becoming anti-human. It is quite clear that the youth that most support the modern liberal movement are oblivious to the consequences of their philosophy should it ever prevail.
And a lot of this goes back to when the "enlightened" liberals refused to distance themselves from the evil totalitarians. It happens now when decent Democrats do not condemn fellow Democrats for using insulting language toward icons of American civilization. When you make a bargain with the devil, don't be surprised when hell comes calling.
Those fine youth at DU and DailyKOS will just as easily turn on Pelosi and Reid as they will on Bush and they don't seem to fully realize this (or care). It is my firm belief that when given a clear choice the majority of voters in our two countries will reject the extremists of all political stripes. So long as that holds true, we can prevent the worst of modern liberalism from coming to fruition.

Sorry, Rudy911, I've stated before that you'll need to address the article at hand. My blog is not a soapbox for any ol' Leftist blather you want to post, or your tiresome anti-war agitprop.
They've got the soundbites down, don't they? Too bad they don't have the common sense, intelligence, or logic...
You're right, Bob--they'll blame whatever they can on us--and they'll ignore what their own movement is doing.
