Defeat Accomplished

Congress Clears Iraq Bill, Veto Awaits
By DAVID ESPO

In a bold wartime challenge to President Bush, the Democratic-controlled Congress cleared legislation Thursday to begin withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. by Oct. 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later. The White House dismissed the legislation as "dead before arrival."

The 51-46 Senate vote was largely along party lines, and like House passage a day earlier it underscored that the war's congressional opponents are far short of the two-thirds majority needed to override a Bush veto.

Democrats marked Thursday's final passage with a news conference during which they repeatedly urged Bush to reconsider his veto threat. "This bill for the first time gives the president of the United States an exit strategy" from Iraq, said Rep. David Obey of Wisconsin.
The legislation is "in keeping with what the American people want," added Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

The White House was unmoved. "The president's determined to win in Iraq. I think the bill that they sent us today is mission defeated," said deputy press secretary Dana Perino. "This bill is dead before arrival."

Hey, anonymous....tell that to our congress, huh? particularly henry waxman?

hearing after hearing after hearing...GET BUSH GET BUSH.

We have a country to save, time to move on and do it, time to stop slamming anything Conservative and not caring what the world hears in the so, even if it's to our peril.

Time to muzzle Harry Reid and take Pelosi's passport away, which SHOULD have been done, by the way. She broke the law, real or ethical, and set a precedent america might never recover from.

ZinLA, You are right on as always. I can't imagine the time and taxpayer's money the Dems have eaten up playing their elaborate game of 'Gotcha'.

Hey Anonymous... It was actually Mitt Romney who said that quote in regard to Osama Bin Laden. Another great Republican.

"It's not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person," Romney said.

Great sign, Donal. It looks almost exactly like the real thing!

(Isn't that great? Anon tries to attribute it to Clinton so as to blame the right, and Les tries to attribute it to Romney so as to blame the right. Pretty funny. Gosh, do you think blaming the right is their only goal?? Nah..... they wouldn't be THAT immature.)

Yes, Bobcat, and I've had it.

ANON./LES/ETC. no more coming here just to Bush bash. Speak to the article in question or a specific point.

This is not DU and I don't have to come here and constantly stand up for the President over your Leftist boilerplate, distractions, and games of Gotcha.

I've offered several arguments for things you've written--things that took time and effort for me to type out--just to have you ignore them and bring up more crap--which I also tried to answer (and THAT was ignored). You offer no proof for the things you say--and I'm not playing hopscotch all night.

I no longer have time to waste on that. Anymore posts that do not address a specific point (and how about keeping it to one or two points per post--not a laundry list) and they will be deleted without comment.

LES--What did I say? I put up my notice and then, directly under you keep the argument going--when I have asked you boys NOT to? I don't give a DAMN who said it; this argument is tabled.

Now, if you wish to offer a comment about the Dems passing their bill/the upcoming Presidntial veto, I'd be happy to listen to that....
