Oh, the Games People Play

Pelosi Won't Attend Petraeus Briefing
By JAKE TAPPER

As the House and Senate prepare to vote this week on the final conference report on the $124 billion troop funding bill — which would also mandate that U.S. combat troops begin withdrawing from Iraq on Oct. 1 at the latest — Gen. David Petraeus is scheduled to come to the Hill tomorrow to brief lawmakers on the progress of the recent troop escalation.

ABC News has learned, however, that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will not attend the briefing. "She can't make the briefing tomorrow," a Democratic aide told ABC News Tuesday evening.

Playing these games are what really makes me mad at the Democrat Party--particularly it's top 'leaders'. When she doesn't have to fly back to her cave at night (you know, the one with that box of dirt from the Old Country in it in which she sleeps) Nancy Pelosi wants to seem like she's got her finger on the pulse. She wants to be top dog. She's busy proving to America, and the rest of the world, that the Democrats are just better people than Republicans, better because they care so much more, and really govern.

Yes, they are going to do something about that Iraqi war, they are going to fix it, they are the only one that can do it. They are going to 'take the solution to Mr. Bush' and 'show him the way'. They REALLY care about the troops--much more than WE do. They'll show Mr. Bush how it's done, they'll bring this war to an end--and in the right way, too--because they're always thinking of those poor kids!

EXCEPT: Nancy can't seem to find a speck of time with which to meet with General Petraeus tomorrow for an important briefing he's giving on the situation there. She has time to take days to fly to Syria and meet with all manner of terrorist leaders, but she hasn't got a minute in her schedule to hear about the MOST important issue facing our nation today.

What do you mean you can't spare a half hour? Are you so insufficiently organized, Nancy, that you can't scrape 5 minutes off 6 other activities that day? (Do without lunch, for heaven's sake!)

A few weeks ago, she refused to go to the White House and to a meeting with President Bush; she wanted to meet 'on her own turf'. 'Bush will have to meet with me in MY office, or I simply won't go'. She DOES want to visit Iran and meet with Ahmadinejad, though... (have-Armani-bag-will-travel!)

These are just deliberately stupid schoolyard games, folks. They are immature and they betray the lengths to which the Democrat Party will go to stamp their feet--even if it hurts us and our soldiers. They're thinking of no one but themselves. With all the continual complaining the Democrats do about the management of the war, if Petraeus is here, in from Iraq, there would be NOTHING more important Pelosi would have to do that day, but meet with him!

How would you like to be a soldier fighting in Iraq and hear that your own Speaker--3rd in line to the Presidency--refuses to meet with the top man running the war? A war in which you may, perhaps, give your life? Especially after the Democrats made such a big deal out of, and based an important election upon, the 'poor' management they felt the troops were getting, and feel they still get? Nancy can't sufficiently rearrange her schedule? Come on!

I don't know how you'd feel, but I'd feel awfully used by the Dems.

Bye, Quackers...

Les, McCain hasn't made all these extravagant claims of 'doing something about Iraq'. And, more importantly, HE ISN'T SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE. Be fair, and for once, be the first Leftist in history to be 100% HONEST about something. Go ahead, man up, I dare you to criticize one of your own.

Right, she is speaker of the house but she isnt RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT and is also the biggest supporter of the escalation!!! At least she had the foresight to have a personal briefing from the general.

McCain's BEEN to war; I don't think a briefing would tell him anything very new. My point was that NannyPoo has made such an utter big deal out of 'solving the Iraqi war'--but you see, she makes her decisions out of partisan politics and not through any reliable info she's obtained.

Otherwise, why would she have time for terrorist, Ahmadinejad, any manner of of our enemies, but NOT President Bush or General Petraeus?

The point is this. The shrillness surrounding anything Speaker Pelosi does has become more of an embarrassment for the Republican party when their own leaders are doing the same thing. Think visit Syria (a gaggle of Republicans were there even as Bush was denouncing Pelosi's visit) and this briefing with the General. McCain did not attend.

This is why Bush has no confidence from the American people (28% approval rating). This is why 60% of the American public trust the Democrats do to what is right in Iraq. The American public see through his bluster, his fear mongering and his cheap political hackery. And this crap about Pelosi missing the Generals meeting is just that when the leading war proponent and presidential candidate does the same thing.

Yes, McCain has been to war. I have been to war too. As a matter of fact it was the same one Senator McCain went to although I don't equate my service as a grunt in the jungles to what he had to endure as a POW. I honor his service to our country. Believe me, my experience in Viet Nam does not give me any special insight into what is going on in Iraq other than I feel for my brothers in arms growing sense of a mission with no end and an incompetent leader at the helm. Yes, Johnson was an incompetent war president but at least he had the moral backbone to feel some empathy for those he put in harm's way.

The reason this bitch won't meet with the military and the reason for her juant to see old Bashir "Ferret Face'' Assad in Syria is because she's had Code Pink camped out in her office and in front of her house. They've been loud and long about how she, Pelosi, has ''betrayed'' them. Typical Left Coast lefties, its all about them. "Who will relieve us of this troublesome woman''? This woman need to kicked down the steps of the Capitol and sent packing. J'Mac.
