Remembering Daniel Pearl

Remembering Daniel Pearl

(Daniel Pearl (October 10, 1963 – February 22, 2002) was an American journalist who was kidnapped and murdered in Karachi, Pakistan. At the time of his kidnapping, Pearl had been investigating the case of Richard Reid the shoe bomber, and alleged links between Al Qaeda and Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

In March 2007, at a closed military hearing in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed reportedly boasted that he had personally beheaded Pearl. A transcript of the hearing quotes Mohammed as saying: "I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl, in the city of Karachi, Pakistan." Then he added, "for those who would like to confirm, there are pictures of me on the Internet holding his head.")

AKEIDA- THE SACRIFICE
By Batya Dagan

A lamb is being caught in the thicket
trapped in the green was it there all this time
when Abraham bound his only son
the light of his eye the heart of his life
to the altar he built because so commanded his God
Abraham does not ask
does not wonder and just does
for God knows and he does not know.

He only knows that his heart is exploding
that his veins are freezing
that his mouth is full of ashes
then God's voice is being heard
a voice sweeter that honey
clearer than a running brook
and the voice says to Abraham
leave the child alone.

Here in the thicket is your sacrificial lamb
my son my beloved the father of my nation
all I gave you you gave me
never will I try you again
but the sweet voice of God was not heard
when Daniel was bound
and there was no lamb in the thicket
only death was caught in the green.

I am a Jew says Daniel
and to this altar he was tied
and on this altar he was sacrificed
and all of Israel is crying
and all of Israel is mourning
the loss of Daniel
Daniel who stood the test
and gave his God all that God gave him.

Thanks so much Donal.

I will ask YEHUDA PEARL, Daniel's father, to come by and see this .

He saw the poem as it was written originally in Hebrew AND DID NOT SEE IT IN ENGLISH YET!

As long as we remember Daniel he is alive.

Oh, that would be so nice! I don't read Hebrew, unfortunately, but it's very moving in English, too.

No, we will not, have not forgotten dear Daniel...

Nice, Batya...thanks so much. Do you know what Daniel Pearl's wife's doing these days? I thought I saw her in Paris when i lived there..it stunned me, out of the clear sky at a cafe, I just knew it was she..........

is she living here now, or? Does she keep close to Yehuda and his wife with their grandchild?

Really nice poem, Batya - very evocative; you can almost feel exactly what both those fathers felt.

The emotions involved are overpowering. The akeida-the binding-truly is the beginning of the worship of the lord G-d. Up to that point Abraham could THINK he was crazy or "touched". But then G-d let him keep his son Isaac, one of the Patriarchs.

Danny Pearl, G-d rest his soul is now in a place beyong suffering and pain. Some day I will get to ask him some long overdue questions.

You are right , Morgan.

GOD was testing Abraham's LOYALTY to HIM.

After the AKEIDA it was clear to God that Abraham is worthy of being the father of the Hebrews .He trusted Abraham to follow his directions and to build a nation tursting and worshipping his God .

True , a lot of water had to flow through the Jordan river before the Tora was given to the children of Israel but the beginning of the process was right there, at the altar.
Thanks Z and bobcat too.

Beautiful poem batya. One doesn't hear much about Daniel Pearl these days. Because he was Jewish and he spat at his killers instead of pleading with them I suppose. The Muslim world needs to suffer more, it needs to weep for its children but silly me, they strap bombs on their children. What murderous, dreay peole Muslims are. They're the collective alcoholic/addict of the world, affecting evertyhing and everyone with their dsyfunctional behavoir. I'm sick of them. I' sick of having to see a war on terror because these pgymies can't live like human beings, but again, how self-centered of me. Jews and Christians and others around the world have suffered from these bugs a lot longer the we in the US. Johnnymac.

Thanks JM

You are so right !

Daniel Pearl stands for all the other victims , those we know of and those we don't.

THERE ARE SO MANY.

Sadly the free world is not using it freedom and power to unite gainst the Muslim monster.

The Muslims have no justified grievances to take with us .All they want is for us to be like them.To accept the abomination called Shria law with all its horrific implications .

Only a serious war will do but we are not there yet.

If we will ever be.

How many more fathers will cry over their sacrificed sons.
