Bad Guys Want Cease-Fire in Iraq?

Bad Guys Want Cease-Fire in Iraq?
By Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: "U.S. military commanders are talking with Iraqi militants about cease-fires and other arrangements to try to stop the violence, the No. 2 American commander said Thursday. Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno said he has authorized commanders to reach out to militants, tribes, religious leaders and others in the country that has been gripped by violence from a range of fronts including insurgents, sectarian rivals and common criminals.

'We are talking about cease-fires, and maybe signing some things that say they won't conduct operations against the government of Iraq or against coalition forces,' Odierno told Pentagon reporters in a video conference from Baghdad. 'It's just the beginning, so we have a lot of work to do on this,' he said. 'But we have restructured ourselves to organize to work this issue.'"

Now, this is a huge. If you're talking about a cease-fire here, this is something that results from strength. It is not something that results from weakness. I'll tell you what the Democrats are going to say. I know how they're going to spin this. We'll probably get a statement from Dingy Harry, if they even refer to this. They may not, since the Drive-Bys are doing their best here to keep this news story sequestered.

However, I think what Dingy Harry will say, "Well, this shows the weakness of the US position. We have to negotiate cease-fires with the enemy to stop our brave soldiers from being killed. We can't defeat them, and this proves it." That's what he'll say. That's what they're trying to spin right now. Then of course somebody might add, " they will break the cease-fire."

Of course, Dingy Harry won't say that because our enemies are honorable. We're not. But if Dingy Harry does say something like this he's going to further go down the road of being a pathetic laughingstock.

It's when you negotiate from strength, that's the road to victory. If they're going to reach out -- I guess they already have reached out for a cease-fire to stop the violence in Iraq. I guarantee you this is not our idea. We're not the ones offering the cease-fire. We're going to see if they want to because apparently some signals have been sent from the bad guys that that is what they want to do.

Al Gore's Insolent Assault on Reason

Al Gore's Insolent Assault on Reason
By Robert Tracinski

Early coverage of Al Gore's new book, The Assault on Reason, has focused on the fact that the book is largely an assault on the Bush administration. But they have glossed over the most significant and alarming theme that Al Gore has taken up: his alleged defense of "reason" includes a justification for government controls over political speech.

Judging from the excerpts of Gore's book published in TIME, his not-so-subtle theme is that reason is being "assaulted" by a free and unfettered debate in the media--and particularly by the fact that Gore has to contend with opposition from the right-leaning media.

Developing a dangerous theme that the left has been toying with for years, Gore says that reason is being suffocated by "media Machiavelli"--that's a veiled reference to Fox News owner Rupert Murdoc and Bush political advisor Karl Rove, the twin hobgoblins of the left. According to Gore, these puppet-masters take advantage of "the clever use of electronic mass media" to "manipulate the outcome of elections."

Now here's the really ominous part. This "manipulation" is rendering our representative government "illegitimate" because it only has the public's "consent"--he repeatedly puts "consent" in scare quotes, just to emphasize the point that this consent is not, in Al Gore's superior judgment, genuine or legitimate. As he puts it, "the 'consent of the governed' [has become] a commodity to be purchased by the highest bidder."

Presumably, this is Gore's fallback explanation for why he didn't really lose the 2000 presidential election, not "genuinely," not "legitimately." That election makes an appearance in Gore's whining complaint about his loss in a televised debate against George W. Bush: "[T]he controversy over my sighs in the first debate with George W. Bush created an impression on television that for many viewers outweighed whatever positive benefits I might have otherwise gained in the verbal combat of ideas and substance." I remember that debate, and I can tell you that Gore lost because his sighs gave him the impression of being the kind of condescending know-it-all who views a debate as "verbal combat" in which he shoves his preferred notions down the public's throat.

His new argument doesn't do anything to reverse that impression. His basic theme seems to be: if the left isn't winning in the marketplace of ideas, there can't possibly be anything wrong with their ideas. It must be the marketplace itself that is "broken," and the left needs to use the power of government to fix it--in both senses of the word "fix."

A Letter to Danny Glover:

A Letter to Danny Glover
By Gustavo Coronel

Dear Danny:I see that you have accepted an $18 million grant from the Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez to produce a film in Venezuela about Toussaint L'Overture, a Haitian hero. As Chairman of TransAfrica Forum, you are opening yourself to criticism, since Dictator Chavez is a close ally of Zimbabwean butcher Robert Mugabe, a despicable tyrant whom your organization now opposes -- though you yourself supported him for some time.

Taking money from an ally of Mugabe is not consistent with the professed ethics of your organization. But, as an individual, you are in even more dubious ethical territory since you are taking money from a dictator who has violated the Venezuelan Constitution and the laws of his country on a continual basis. In only seven years, Chavez has destroyed the rule of law in our country.

In his most recent act of aggression against Venezuelan freedom, Chavez shut down Radio Caracas TV and -- with the help of the armed forces -- confiscated its assets. This act has produced righteous indignation and protest all over the free world. How can you claim to side with the poor and the oppressed of the earth while accepting money and favors from corrupt dictators like Chavez, and idolizing butchers like Fidel Castro?

Thought this is your worst ethical transgression against the Venezuelan people, it is not the only one.

FRED DALTON THOMPSON: Living In Terror

Living In Terror
TownHall

Let me ask you a hypothetical question. What do you think America would do if Canadian soldiers were firing dozens of missiles every day into Buffalo, N.Y.? What do you think our response would be if Mexican troops for two years had launched daily rocket attacks on San Diego -- and bragged about it?

I can tell you, our response would look nothing like Israel's restrained and pinpoint reactions to daily missile attacks from Gaza. We would use whatever means necessary to win the war. There would likely be numerous casualties on our enemy's side, but we would rightfully hold those who attacked us responsible.

More than 1,300 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza since Palestinians were given control two years ago. Israelis, however, have gone to incredible lengths to stop the war against them without harming Palestinian non-combatants. But make no mistake, Israel is at war. The elected Hamas government regularly repeats its official promise to destroy Israel entirely and replace it with an Islamic state. Hamas openly took credit for killing one woman and wounding dozens more last week alone.

The Palestinian strategy is to purposely target and kill Israeli civilians. Then, when Israel goes after those launching the attacks, Palestinians claim to be the victims. If Palestinian civilians aren't hurt in the Israeli attacks, they stage injuries and deaths. Too often, they garner sympathy and support from a gullible or anti-Semitic media in the international community.

Israelis, themselves, are often incapable of facing the damage they inflict in self-defense. Knowing this, Islamic extremists are using their own populations as human shields.

I'm beginning to wonder how much longer this vicious plot will work though. International sympathy for Palestinians has diminished as the same Islamofascist extremists have brought havoc to Madrid, Bali, Somalia, London and elsewhere. More importantly, Israelis themselves are suffering so badly, they may be on the verge of losing their sympathy for the people who have sworn to kill them.

Imagine what it would be like to live, knowing that a rocket could fall on you or your children at any minute. Half of those who live nearest to Gaza have fled their homes. Those remaining are traumatized by daily warning sirens and explosions.

The irony is that Israel has the military might to easily win the war that is being waged against them today. They haven't used that might, in the past, out of compassion for Palestinian civilians and because it could trigger a wider regional conflict.

That balance of power is about to change, though. If Iran develops nuclear weapons, the very existence of this tiny nation of Israel will be threatened. The Iranian regime has left little doubt that it intends to see Israel "wiped off the map.” Hamas is using the same language, not coincidentally, and has announced it will begin launching missiles into Israel from the West Bank too.

If the world doesn't act to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions, it must be prepared for the consequences of Israel defending itself.

DU Questions, Insults, Returning Amputees

Amputee Soldiers Return To Active Duty
Seattle Post-Intelligencer.com

In the blur of smoke and blood after a bomb blew up under his Humvee in Iraq, Sgt. Tawan Williamson looked down at his shredded leg and knew it couldn't be saved. His military career, though, pulled through.

Less than a year after the attack, Williamson is running again with a high-tech prosthetic leg and plans to take up a new assignment, probably by the fall, as an Army job counselor and affirmative action officer in Okinawa, Japan.

In an about-face by the Pentagon, the military is putting many more amputees back on active duty - even back into combat, in some cases.

Williamson, a 30-year-old Chicago native who is missing his left leg below the knee and three toes on the other foot, acknowledged that some will be skeptical of a maimed soldier back in uniform.

"But I let my job show for itself," he said. "At this point, I'm done proving. I just get out there and do it."

Previously, a soldier who lost a limb almost automatically received a quick discharge, a disability check and an appointment with the Veterans Administration.

But since the start of the Iraq war, the military has begun holding on to amputees, treating them in rehab programs like the one here at Fort Sam Houston and promising to help them return to active duty if that is what they want.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1110AP_Amputee_Soldiers.html

DUers Intentionally Misunderstand and Hype this:

--I am flabbergasted. Are amputees being ordered back or is it voluntary?

--Looks to be at their request or at least the soldier featured in the article requested it, but since the start of the Iraq war, the military has begun holding on to amputees...

--My friend was sent back into combat on crutches. So this doesn't really surprise me. The military planned to discharge him on disability, but he appealed, hoping to become a drill instr.

No drill instructing for him but a clerk job pushing papers. He could have gotten out. Guess life at a VA hospital would have been worse then pencil pushing from a mil spec desk.

--The is the start of RoboTroops... Pretty soon, once maimed, troops will be forced to stay in and complete their enlistments. They will be rebuilt. Maybe like the bionic man or RoboCop. The future is a man blown to bits, rebuilt with nothing but his vital organs intact encased in a warfighters collection of engineered body parts.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2864304

This is absolute nonsense. The article itself explains that it only does this with soldiers that badly WANT to go back into the war zone.

For many of them, the one burning desire they have is to go back and support their brothers who are still fighting. To treat them as gullible dupes who are being sent in harms way while 'crippled' is the height of exploitation and manipulation.

All those Dems who think our troops are nothing more than infantile children who are 'being made' to go to war--telling them that they are just cannon fodder--are handicapping them more than their war wounds ever will.

THEIR Memorial Day vs. OUR Memorial Day

OUR Memorial Day Here:

Thank you to everyone who participated in, or 'watched' my Memorial Day Parade here at The DU d'RAT Review! Given the reactions I've received, it was a roaring success and a lot of fun!

Someplace that wasn't fun over the Memorial Day holiday weekend was the Democrat Underground. I scrolled through the worst of it to bring you the prevailing sentiments below, so you'll know EXACTLY how far the Democrats 'support the troops'.

It certainly puts paid to the lie that you can 'support the troops but not the war', as a recent commenter here has stated repeatedly (to no avail; we know how the Left really feels about the military.) If I had a chance to bequeath one sobriquet upon them I'd call them 'The Spitters'--those alive during the war in Viet Nam should know exactly what I mean...

Echoing this attitude was that of our lady Speaker Of the House--Nancy Pelosi. She made a mad-dash sprint to Greenland to 'watch the climate change' rather than spend any time honoring our troops or their sacrifice, participating in the laying of the wreath at Arlington National Cemetery, or giving a simple address or attending a church service. In fact, she made a particular point of being gone from Washington D.C. precisely so she WOULDN'T have to do any of those things.

DU's democrat party Leftists followed her lead; when I tuned into DU on Monday morning, there was not ONE tribute to the troops or positive thoughts about this country. In fact, as the day advanced, I scrolled through the continuing line up of posts there and found there was not any positive reference to our troops out of nearly 200 posts (each page of 'latest entries' holds upwards of 60 posts each, and I reviewed at least 3-4 pages of them before I stopped looking.)

I wonder how long I could've gone on or if there were ANY positive remembrances, or honor for our troops, from ANY of their 100,000-odd members?

THEIR Memorial Day At DU:

--Bush speaking at Arlington... He, of course is using his best 'I mourn the dead' voice. It was all applause and cheers for him when he appeared. Apparently no protestors were allowed in the area. Wonder what measures his Brown Shirts used to keep everyone but Bushbots out? Is this what our fallen died for?

--That's clearly a hand-picked crowd. Ugh - he speaks like a three year old and his body language screams that he doesn't want to be there. Then he stands with that weird arms-akimbo monkey pose next to a Marine like he's some big stud. What a disgusting, evil, vile little man.

--Having him at Arlington on a day like this Is disgusting. A coward standing before the brave. How could they desecrate the memories of these fallen heroes? He's a murderer visiting the scene of his crime. Too bad he's only visiting. All the while wondering how he could piss out JFK's Eternal Flame.

--How could they applaud when he came and when he left? These people are just as guilty as he is- by applauding him they are enabling him.

--You and I had the exact same thought. The fact that the craven coward is even allowed to set foot in the hallowed ground of Arlington Cemetery any day, but especially on Memorial Day, just sickens me. As for those who cheered him today, makes me wonder if they have any brain cells that work... The man has no shame... he's the most despicable man on planet earth.

--I don't think the terrorists are going to follow us home, I think. They are going to lead the way. We are creating so much hatred around the world it is inevitable in my mind that terrorism will soon become a common occurrence in the good ol' USofA. And I believe it could have been prevented by using our collective heads for more than a hat rack..If we analyze the different ways of combating ill will toward America, why would we pick the very worst way to be our official policy? IMO the answer is quite simple War Profiteering

--All the while believing that they had Divine Right to do so... The "we're doing it for their own good" syndrome. Bu$hco could NOT care less about "doing it for their own good" He and his corrupt corporate bidnez buddies are in it for the CA$H! Bottom line! If we were to learn from history, there would not have been a Wounded Knee, just as there would never have been a "War on Terra"- but we either aren't willing to learn, or we're too proud to believe we aren't "gods" of the world."The answer my friend is Blowin in the Wind, the answer is blowin in the wind..."

--Fascism is our fault. Who else is there to oppose this threat and these threateners? Congress? That's a hoot. These bush-type, reagan-types show up like clockwork whenever the left becomes lazy. They lack no energy to force their will upon us. Why would we expect some outside help? WE ARE THE WARRIORS FOR JUSTICE!

Unless we like wars for oil, halliburton mega-profits, gay smashing, civil liberty dissapearence, gulags, torture, endless wars, christian musclemen, moralizers, foxaganda, the trashing of science, then lets just stay home and watch them take everything and finally destroy that foul document called the Constitution. (They despise it).

The only semblence of leftism was demonstrated in Seattle at the WTO meeting. Civil disobedience has acheived nothing for us. Oh, I know, we are the peaceniks. Now our labors unions are dead. There was a time when labor was passionate and not above getting a little bloody. War demonstrators of the past were real and dead serious. Sometimes I think the ballot box is a useless way to effect change.

--We need to become serious students of people like Gandhi and MLK and learn/follow the tenets of non-cooperation and apply them to this corrupt, war mongering administration, as well as our Congressional House of Corporate Puppets. To be effective this MUST be sustained and done en masse. Easy to talk about, not so easy to put together, but we're fast running out of options.

--Disgusting, simply disgusting... (pic shown of President Bush laying wreath at Arlington). How dare this psychopath set foot on these hallowed grounds! If anyone ever deserved to be struck by lightning... He's the last person I wanted to see, today!

--The first thing I noticed was the pained look on his face. His reaction is probably along the vein of, "how many times have I told the clowns who work for me not to put me next to dead soldiers? HOW MANY TIMES?" Fucking dry drunk.

--If only spirits could rise from the dead, my father's and many more would have risen to drive him away from that hollowed ground.

--"CIC" = "Chickenshit In Charge". What nerve this silly motherfucker has...

--Fuck you, bush. Just FUCK you. Those who died in Iraq died for NOTHING. And you know it. And we know it. They died for nothing, you cynical, lying psychopath.

An Open Letter To Bush:

Dear George,

This last week, as you were once again spreading your propaganda at a Rose Garden press conference, a
bird came by to give you a gift that you so rightfully deserved. Yes, George you got shit on. After all these years of shitting on the American people, you got your payback.

And what did you do, you wiped off the shit with your bare hand. Of course the press barely noticed, because for you wiping off shit has become your area of expertise. They have allowed you to get yourself deep into shit for years, and then just simply wipe it off and go shake the hands of those who are willing to ignore the shit that covers you.

George, you have lied about a war that has killed hundreds of thousands. You have illegally monitored the phone calls of millions of innocent Americans. You have stolen large numbers votes in your illegitimate elections. You have killed, you have stolen, you have tortured, and you have lied over and over again. We have so much shit on you Mr. Bush, but you keep wiping that shit off with your bare hands. If people would only realize just how dirty your hands are you would have been impeached by now.

But our media never seems to notice all the shit that is dropped on you Mr. Bush, instead they pretend that shit doesn't exist. It is easy enough for them to ignore sparrow shit, but watch out because there is something much bigger than a sparrow flying through our skies.

Have you ever seen the movie Dumbo? It is about the very symbol of the Republican Party, an elephant. But Dumbo was different than the other elephants George, Dumbo was a good elephant who was mistreated by his peers because he was different. He was mistreated the same way that your party mistreats those who might be gay or from some other group your so-called "moral leaders" bash. Eventually though Dumbo felt the need to fly away, and fly away he did.

Yes Dumbo was special, Dumbo could soar through the skies. Now Dumbo is coming after you and we have fed him several buckets of Metamucil. Be prepared for Operation Dumbo Drop George because we are ready to see the shit drop on you like never before.

We have our people working every day to expose all the shit you have created in this world Mr. Bush, and one day we are going to make sure that shit all gets dumped on you in one giant plop. The American people will see how full of shit you are, and the American people will call for you to get your act cleaned up.

It is time to wash the shit you have brought upon this world away George, It is time to flush you and your administration down the toilet once and for all.

Sincerely,

A person who uses toilet paper, not his bare hand.

--Bush invited Rolling Thunder to the White House, so why isn't he inviting vets against the war or protestors?

--A man I work with who is a lifelong biker and served two tours in Vietnam joined this group one year for the big ride. He told me they were the biggest bunch of nut cases he had ever seen. He also felt that many of them were either totally fabricating their "experience in Nam" or had not served at all. He was disgusted by the whole thing.

--The only thing I know is that they are a bunch of old women and men who claim that they are vietnam vets, and they ride motorcycles and wear leather jackets. They also love to pick fights with bush protestors, which they did at an earlier protest this year. What they need to do is take their asses over to Iraq and start doing what their commander and thief has commanded them to do,seeing that he has hypnotized these people into believing the bushit...

--I served during Vietnam but spent the two years in the States. I don't know a single combat vet who brags about their experiences other than the ones who are just making shit up to impress people. There was this one guy who use to tell me about all his combat exploits in 'Nam. One day a friend of mine started drilling this guy. The friend had served two tours with the Marines in 'Nam. He did some checking after this little session and discovered that this so called "combat vet" was actually a fucking mechanic who had never even fired a weapon over there.

--Bush, why didn't you enlist these folks for your eye-rakee surge? Oh yeah I forgot: Like shrub, they're chickenhawks.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=latest_threads

So, you can see that this war isn't about the troops at all. These people have no clue as to who and what our troops are made of. Their Bush Derangement Syndrome has so completely overtaken them that they can't see past it. I thoroughly expect them to have a terrible shock when the wake up the morning of the next presidential election and they die from not seeing Bush on the ticket!

The d'Rats can't even talk about the troops for a few minutes without always bringing it back to Bush and/or 'Bush's War'. They denigrate those that come to honor the troops in their stead. Those brave members of Rolling Thunder, who are the vets that come from all over the country to guard our war memorials from being vandalized by the anti-war protestors, have seemingly earned their special scorn. Even the few liberals that post on MY blog make excuses and downplay violence by the Left.

Something is always more important to the Dems, the d'Rats, the Leftist nihilists among us; it's always about them. Before you vote in the next election ask yourself "Are these people gonna keep me and our country safe?" Is this candidate going to have my best interests at heart?" If they can't even spend one post, one comment, one minute in a silent remembrance to our troops--what makes you think they'd EVER think about you?

Fitzgerald: O.K., Libby Wasn’t Convicted of Leaking — But Punish Him As If He Had Been

Fitzgerald: O.K., Libby Wasn’t Convicted of Leaking — But Punish Him As If He Had Been
NRO, by Byron York

During the perjury and obstruction trial of Lewis Libby, prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald never charged, and never presented evidence, that Libby illegally disclosed the name of a covert CIA agent. But now, Fitzgerald wants Libby to be sentenced as if he had been guilty of that crime.

Libby is scheduled to face sentencing on June 5. In court papers filed last week, Fitzgerald argues that Libby should be sentenced to 30 to 37 months in jail — a relatively stiff sentence that is appropriate, Fitzgerald says, because of the seriousness of the investigation which Libby was convicted of obstructing.

During the CIA-leak probe, Fitzgerald looked into possible violations of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act and the Espionage Act. He did not charge anyone with breaking either law. But in his court filing, Fitzgerald writes that the grand jury “obtained substantial evidence indicating that one or both of the…statutes may have been violated.”

Therefore, Fitzgerald is asking Judge Reggie Walton to treat Libby as if it had been proven that such crimes occurred. “Because the investigation defendant was convicted of endeavoring to obstruct focused on violations of the IIPA and the Espionage Act,” Fitzgerald continues, “the court much calculate defendant’s offense level by reference to the guidelines applicable to such violations.”

As a basis for his argument, Fitzgerald is using a common legal distinction: It’s more serious to obstruct a murder investigation than a shoplifting investigation. The problem, for Fitzgerald, is that he never proved that a crime, as defined by either the Intelligence Identities Protection Act or the Espionage Act, actually occurred. Now, he’s arguing not only that he proved a crime occurred but that Libby knowingly took part in it.

Hillary, Bill Clinton Linked To Elder Scam - How Much Were They Paid?

Hillary, Bill Clinton Linked To Elder Scam - How Much Were They Paid?
Dick Morris & Eileen McGann

Since he left office in 2001, former president Bill Clinton has been paid by $3.3 million by InfoUSA, an Omaha, Nebraska company that has been identified as a key provider of specially designed databases that have been sold to criminals who use the detailed information to defraud the unsuspecting elderly.

The consulting fees to the former president were only part of the largess InfoUSA showered on the former president.

Vinod Gupta, the CEO of InfoUSA, lent the Clintons the company's jet which took them to places like Switzerland, Hawaii, Jamaica and Mexico.

The jet service was worth a staggering $900,000.

And Gupta gave the Clinton library a six-figure gift as well. Indeed, just months after he left the presidency, Bill Clinton was paid $200,000 for a speech given to InfoUSA in Omaha. InfoUSA is not the kind of company with which a former president and the husband of a presidential candidate should associate.

According to the The New York Times, InfoUSA compiled and sold lists that disclosed the names of elderly men and women who would be likely to respond to unscrupulous scams.
The lists left no doubt about the vulnerability of the elderly targets.

How the Left Keeps Memorial Day:

Another City Gets Hit With Memorial Day Swastikas
NBC

As veterans and their families filtered in to a local American Legion on Memorial Day, they found a somber scene.

Swastikas were sprayed all over the Manoa American Legion building in

Delaware County, prevalently displayed and polluting the patriotic look of the veterans’ sanctuary.

"I was just shocked to think that someone would come to a place like this and desecrate it with a swastika,” said Phil Miller of American Legion Manoa Post 667. “Especially on Memorial Day. It's just horrible.”

Some volunteers spent the day of honor and remembrance painting over the fresh swastika graffiti that tarnished the post.

Police were still investigating the vandalism.

What the Left Has Given Us:

Police Arrest 2 At Parade
By Michael Levenso

Standing ramrod straight in dress blues and crisp khakis, the seven color guard members lifted their rifles for one of the most solemn moments of any Memorial Day parade, the 21-gun salute. Hundreds who had gathered to witness the tribute watched in silence.

Just then, the eggs came flying. One glanced off a tree branch, and landed far away from the marchers in yesterday's Memorial Day Parade in Rockland, said Ryan Durfee , a former Marine who was marching in the color guard. Another crashed 8 feet in front of the color guard.

"Too close for comfort," Durfee said last night.

After the throwing , Durfee said he saw two teens run from their backyard into their house, and two police officers chase after them.

Rockland police said last night that they arrested two 13-year-olds and charged them with disorderly conduct and assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony.

Rockland Police Chief John Llewellyn told FOX-25 TV that the culprits were a "couple of 13-year-olds that just wanted to cause some trouble and they picked the wrong time and the wrong group of people to do it to."

Durfee said the color guard completed its 21-gun salute despite the disturbance. But last night at the Rockland Veterans of Foreign Wars center , emotions were still raw, said Steven MacDonald , the post commander.

"It's very discouraging, especially on a day like today," MacDonald said. "We don't need somebody throwing eggs at us. That's crazy. It's unacceptable."

MacDonald said several veterans are planning plan to show up at Hingham District Court today to demonstrate their disgust as the two teens are arraigned in the juvenile session.

My stepdad was a Marine. He worked on the 'crash crew' on airstrips in Okinawa after the war. My sis says, after one particularly bad crash, she remembers mom told her he she heard him crying in the bedroom...

I swear to God, if I had been in that crowd and saw those boys throwing eggs at those fine men, I would have charged out of the crowd and totally come unglued; I'd have slapped the s*** out of them. They would've been very glad to be turned over to the police... Nothing makes me madder!

Mexico Boos America...

Mexicans Boo Miss USA/America
By Julie Watson

Many here south of the border reveled in her disastrous evening: First Miss USA Rachel Smith slipped and fell on her bottom during the Miss Universe evening gown competition. Then she was booed by hundreds in the Mexican audience.

The treatment of the Tennessee beauty queen was nothing personal. It had more to do with Mexico's sometimes tense relationship with its powerful northern neighbor.

U.S. athletes have sparked a similar response. In 2005, when the U.S. played Mexico during a World Cup soccer qualifier, the crowd booed the U.S. national anthem and a smattering of fans chanted "Osama! Osama!" during the game.

Smith was booed repeatedly during her stay in Mexico, including last week, when she carried a guitar and wore an Elvis-style suit during a parade of national costumes held in downtown Mexico City.

She kept her poise during an interview Monday night with pageant judges, despite the boos and chants of "Mexico! Mexico!" that drowned out her answer.

I posted this because of an email dear ZinLA sent me this morning and the others at our clubhouse seconded it. The idea that people who are trying to sneak into this country--and from whom they want cradle-to-grave entitlements AND AMNESTY-- would even dare to boo us is ridiculous!

Please, if you disagree or dislike us that much, you can best show it by not coming here to bad-mouth us, boo at our people and policies, and sponge off our government.

Thank you, ZinLA, for pointing out this absurdity and bringing us this!

Communist Hillary

Clinton: Shared Prosperity Should Replace 'On Your Own' Society
By Holly Ramer, Associated Press Writer

Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined a broad economic vision Tuesday, saying it's time to replace an "on your own" society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.

The Democratic senator said what the Bush administration touts as an "ownership society" really is an "on your own" society that has widened the gap between rich and poor.

"I prefer a 'we're all in it together' society," she said. "I believe our government can once again work for all Americans. It can promote the great American tradition of opportunity for all and special privileges for none."

That means pairing growth with fairness, she said, to ensure that the middle-class succeeds in the global economy, not just corporate CEOs.

"There is no greater force for economic growth than free markets. But markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed," she said. "Fairness doesn't just happen. It requires the right government policies."

Clinton spoke at the Manchester School of Technology, which trains high school students for careers in the construction, automotive, graphic arts and other industries. The school highlighted one of the nine goals she outlined: increasing support for alternative schools and community colleges.

"We have sent a message to our young people that if you don't go to college ... that you're thought less of in America. We have to stop this," she said. "Our country cannot run without the people who have the skills that are taught in this school."

Beyond education, Clinton said she would reduce special breaks for corporations, eliminate tax incentives for companies that ship jobs overseas and open up CEO pay to greater public scrutiny.

Clinton also said she would help people save more money by expanding and simplifying the earned income tax credit; create new jobs by pursuing energy independence; and ensure that every American has affordable health insurance.

Cindy Sheehan Quits as 'Face' of the Anti-War Movement
Fow News

Cindy Sheehan, the "peace mom" who made headlines in 2005 by staging a marathon protest outside President Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch, said Monday that she no longer wants to be seen as a leader of the anti-war movement.

In a 1,245-word missive entitled "Goodbye Attention Whore" posted on the liberal DailyKos blog, Sheehan said her campaign to end the war in Iraq had strained her relationship with her children, cost her a marriage and left her nearly penniless.

"This is my resignation letter as the 'face' of the American anti-war movement," Sheehan wrote. "I am going to take whatever I have left and go home. I am going to go home and be a mother to my surviving children and try to regain some of what I have lost."

Sheehan founded the Gold Star Families for Peace after her son, Casey Sheehan, a 24-year-old Army specialist, was killed in an April 2004 battle in Baghdad. Sheehan was an outspoken critic of the Bush administration's policies and was often a target of criticism herself for visiting with leftist leaders like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.

Sheehan, however, said she had become increasingly disillusioned with the Democratic Party.

In an open letter to the Democratic members of Congress on Saturday, however, she announced that she was leaving the Party because she believed its leaders had failed to change the country's course in Iraq.

"I was the darling of the so-called left as long as I limited my protests to George Bush and the Republican Party. Of course, I was slandered and libeled by the right as a 'tool' of the Democratic Party." Sheehan wrote. "However, when I started to hold the Democratic Party to the same standards that I held the Republican Party, support for my cause started to erode and the 'left' started labeling me with the same slurs that the right used. "

The Do-Nothing Democrats--Quelle Surprise!

Do-Nothing Democrats--Quelle Surprise!
By Ronald A. Cass

I can't play quarterback the way Tom Brady or Peyton Manning can, but like most Americans I'm happy after a big game to say what they did right or wrong. As any Monday morning quarterback knows, it's hard to do things but easy to complain, critique, and second-guess.

Democrats, after controlling Congress almost continuously from 1933 to 1995, were the minority party in the House of Representatives for a dozen years and for 10 of 12 years were the minority in the Senate, too. So, perhaps, it's not surprising that they've gotten very good at complaining about how the nation is governed and not so good at actually doing it.

But few people have connected that to the performance of the 110th Congress. With Congress out for its Memorial Day break, commentators across the nation are taking stock of its first quarter performance and concluding that the Democrats have come up dramatically short. From left and right alike, observers are drawing the same picture of a Do-Nothing Congress. And, happy or sad, most are proclaiming surprise.

Google Snubs Memorial Day--Again

Google Snubs Memorial Day--Again
WND

No holiday logo modification for 9th year in a row.

For the ninth year in a row, the Internet search giant Google declined to mark Memorial Day with its trademarked holiday logo modification – something the company has done for the Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Halloween and other observances that have nothing to do with American patriotism or commemorations of military service or war dead.

Google has, in the past, highlight special honors for Percival Lowell, Edvard Munch and Louis Braille. Lowell was an astronomer, Munch an artist, and Braille developed Braille writing for the blind. But while the rest of the nation marked Memorial Day today, Google did not.

Other days that have been honored have included National Teachers Day, Women's Day, Ray Charles' birthday, World Water Day and St. George's Day.

Last year, the company came under fire when, for the eighth year in a row, it made no effort to commemorate any holiday honoring U.S. veterans or war dead on either Veterans Day or Memorial Day. It claimed the holiday was too solemn, though its Canadian homepage did feature a tribute to fallen soldiers.

Besides overlooking Veterans Day and Memorial Day since the company's inception in 1999, it also has ignored Christmas.

Google has been criticized for its one-sided political contributions and content policies:

--Rejecting an ad for a book critical of Bill and Hillary Clinton while continuing to accept anti-Bush themes

--Rejecting ads critical of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., while continuing to run attack ads against former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas

--Allowing the communist Chinese government to have the search engine block "objectionable" search terms such as "democracy"

In addition, the company came under fire for an editorial decision giving preferential placement to large, elite media outlets such as CNN and the BBC over independent news sources, such as WND, even if they are more recent, pertinent and exhaustive in their coverage.

As WND reported, 98 percent of all political donations by Google employees went to support Democrats, and as a matter of fact, Al Gore is now a senior adviser to Google.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt gave the maximum legal limit of donations to Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry and to primary candidate Howard Dean.

Schmidt also contributed the maximum amount to Sen. Clinton.

Flags Replaced With Swastikas in Washington

Vandals burned dozens of small American flags that decorated veterans' graves for Memorial Day and replaced many of them with hand-drawn swastikas, authorities said Monday.

Forty-six flag standards were found empty and another 33 flags were in charred tatters Sunday in the cemetery, authorities said. Swastikas drawn on paper appeared where 14 of the flags had been.

Members of the American Legion on this island off Washington's northwest coast replaced the burned flags with new ones Sunday afternoon.

The vandals struck again on Memorial Day after a guard left at dawn, the San Juan County sheriff's office said. This time, the vandals left 33 of the hand-drawn swastikas.

"This is not an act of free speech. This is a crime," Sheriff Bill Cumming said in a statement released Monday afternoon.

Investigators believe there's more than one culprit, based on the number of flags that were vandalized, Cumming said in a telephone interview. But authorities have no suspects, he said.
The sheriff said deputies were trying to lift fingerprints off what little physical evidence they were able to recover.

Pigs Killed After Vandals Attack Free Range Farm

Pigs Killed After Vandals Attack Free Range Farm
By Dominic Prince

Animal rights extremists have been accused of attacking a farm belonging to Peter Gott, who uses free range and organic methods and is also a mentor to Jamie Oliver.

Fences that were used to keep rare breeds apart were cut and ancient stone walls were broken down to encourage the wild boar to escape.

Mr Gott said: "We are a very welfare-friendly operation but certain species do not always get on well together.

"Two saddleback boars and a wild boar fought and crushed four piglets to death. "One sow has died and one sow who was due to give birth is so badly injured that we do not expect her unborn piglets to survive."

Mr Gott added: "How this can be described as animal rights I don't know." Sillfield Farm near Kendal, Cumbria was attacked in the early hours of Friday.

Jamie Oliver, who buys two pigs a week for his restaurant from Mr Gott, sent him a text message that read: "I am so sorry mate. Why would they want to do that? I just don't understand it at all."

Mr Gott's 150 wild boar roam free in 18 acres of woodland. The animals are fed on conventional pig feed as well as worms and grubs and he will not use growth promoters, genetically modified grain or additives.

The Highwayman Inn at nearby Kirby Lonsdale was also attacked.

Six windows were smashed, the tyres of vehicles in the car park were slashed and the attackers also sprayed "Free the Boar" on the wall of the pub, which buys meat from Mr Gott.

"At My Grave..."

I Did Not Die

Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.
